An enlarged Europe : Presentation
The enlargement of the European Union is a major challenge, which is first and foremost a social challenge. EAPN looks forward to working more closely with NGOs in the candidate and acceding countries. EAPN regards the enlargement process as a mutual learning process for all those involved.
The long-term aim of EAPN’s strategy on enlargement is to welcome representative NGO networks from the candidate and acceding countries as members of the network. In the short and medium term, EAPN strives to achieve the following
- To establish regular contacts with representative NGOs in candidate and acceding countries
- To open associate membership of EAPN to networks from candidate and acceding countries, as a first step towards full membership of EAPN
- To make enlargement a cross-cutting issue across all EAPN activities and to involve representatives from the candidate and acceding countries in the ongoing activities of EAPN
- To establish an effective flow of information to and from candidate and acceding countries
