The European strategy on social inclusion : Presentation

In 2000, the European Union adopted a strategic approach to addressing poverty and social exclusion. Member States are to contribute to the strategy through national action plans on social inclusion, on the basis of common objectives adopted at European level. In addition a five-year Community action programme supports the coordination of the strategy at European level.

EAPN has played an important role in bringing forward and shaping this strategy. These developments raise new challenges and new opportunities for EAPN. Building on past achievements and the commitment of its members, EAPN monitors the national action plans on social inclusion ensuring that the voice of those experiencing poverty and social exclusion is taken into account at all stages and at all levels of policy making.
